Ridge And Furrows

As the days grow shorter and the Sun is lower in the sky the shadows grow longer and archaeological features become easier to see. The above photograph was taken from Shady Lane Clayton-le-Woods over looking Cuerden Valley looking S.E. towards Chorley (SD565 299). In the sloping fields you can clearly see what I believe to be the ‘shadows’ of medieval ridge and furrows of the old township fields.
